Europe’s hotel industry reported all-time lows in occupancy and revenue per available room (RevPAR), according to STR’s year-end 2020 data.

STR found that on average occupancy across the European market was just 33.1%, down 54.2% on 2019 levels. It also found that the average daily rate was €93.34 (£82.90) an 18% drop compared with the previous year.

In addition, RevPAR fell by 62% compared with 2019 to just €30.86 (£27.41).

In the UK, STR found that average occupancy decreased by almost half year-on-year to 40.5% (-47.7%), with ADR down 23% to £72.08. RevPAR also decreased by 60% to £29.17.

Commenting on the figures, STR said: “The absolute occupancy and RevPAR levels were the lowest for any year on record in STR’s U.K. database. Amid continued Covid-19 lockdowns around the country, December performance was down from the prior month, and the country’s 26.1% occupancy level was its lowest since May.”
