A very novel concept located in Reem Mall, Jumeirah 3, Dubai, Mmmbox – Sushi, Asian & Indian Pan Asian eatery’s strength lies in its convenient delivery of “yummy meals in a box” right to your doorstep—home or office. Not only do they offer extremely fresh sushi and dim sum, but also have a mouthwatering array of Asian curries and sliders available too.
While the venue is mainly for delivery at the doorstep and that too in buzz-worthy packaging which keeps the food hot and fresh, we opted to enjoy the terrace outdoors. The space inside is eclectic, with brightly colored 3D boxes on the ceiling and the walls. These boxes are directly depicted on the menu with bold icons to represent every dish on the menu.
The menu is divided into different boxes; so there’s Dim Sum Box, Sushi Box, Asian Box, Kebob Box, and Indi Box. Each type of sushi from the Sushi Box comes with four pieces and we ordered the spicy avocado box—made with fresh avocado, tobanjan, and shichimi. It was extremely balanced in terms of flavors and spice. The crazy California was another Insta-worthy treat that was a creamy, crab based roll, with tempura flakes, ponzu, tobiko, and mayo to tie the sushi together. And the crab salad, which was essentially small crab sticks with slivered cucumbers, plus ponzu and tobiko for flavor.
Another favorite of mine is dim sum, and we tucked into chicken & chili oil dim sum, which was drizzled over with chili oil, vinegar, and brown garlic. Then the prawn cheung fun—made of prawns, chilies, soy sauce, and garlic. Both were loaded in flavor, and fun to eat.
Now for our mains—the curries all come with sticky rice, and we chose the green vegetarian curry, always a favorite of mine, was warming and had just the right blend of coconut milk to make it light. And the soy chili garlic curry was a slightly spicy curry; both which went perfectly with the bowls of sticky rice.
We also enjoyed my all-time favorite Indian 24-Hour Burranta daal, a warming medley of black lentils, simmered slowly with Indian aromatics and spices, and garnished with a generous dollop of fresh cream. Served with Amritsari kulcha (a stuffed flatbread), it was fantastic. And finally we indulged in mmmutton raan tacos, which were mini saffron phulka soft tacos, stuffed with a spicy, 24-hour pulled tender lamb. It was meaty and we quickly polished it off.
We were delighted that MmmBox serves dessert; we tried mini Lotus cheesecake cups and strawberry cheesecake cups. This was a really nice way to end this deliciously warming meal, overlooking Jumeirah on the terrace.
