Iran is the Middle East country worst hit by Covid-19, says report – Middle East Monitor

An index of the world’s safest countries in terms of Covid-19 infections has placed Iran at 106th out of 134, the lowest ranking for a Middle East Country.

In the 2021 Coronavirus Index produced by Global Finance, Iceland was ranked as the safest country, followed by the UAE and Qatar in second and third place respectively. Bahrain was placed twelfth.

The rankings are based on a number of factors, including the number of Covid-19 deaths per capita and vaccinations per capita.

Other countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council on the list include Kuwait in eighteenth place, Saudi Arabia at number nineteen and Oman in twenty-fifth.

The World Health Organisation is urging countries in the region to remain vigilant, as new virus mutations could be more infectious and resistant to vaccines.
