Arizona Legislators Want to Ship Mississippi River Stormwater to the Colorado River – News

“The Arizona Legislature on Tuesday made a formal request asking Congress to fund a study to determine the feasibility of pipelining Mississippi River floodwater to the Colorado River,” reports the Mohave Valley Daily News.

Arizona representatives Tim Dunn (R-Yuma) and Leo Biasiucci (R-Lake Havasu City) are among the co-sponsors of House Concurrent Memorial 2004 (a legislative measure making a request or proposal).

The memorial is seeking Mississippi River water as a solution to ongoing shortages on the Colorado River as water levels reach historic lows in the two largest reservoirs on the river, Lake Powell and Lake Mead. The memorial also suggests that the pipeline could be used as stormwater infrastructure to prevent regular flooding along the Mississippi River.
