7 Places to Dine and Indulge This Summer

It may be swimsuit season, but that doesn’t mean we’re ready to sacrifice deliciousness. Sure, a cold-pressed juice is a great way to kick off a summer morning, but when it comes to dining out, that “go big or go home” mentality is certainly not lost. After all, Newport Beach’s culinary scene is known for its decadent and flavorful fare—whether it’s a stack of syrup-soaked pancakes for brunch or a fully loaded burger for lunch. So slip on your stretchy pants because we’ve rounded up a list of local restaurants where the calories don’t count. Dig in!

Five Crowns

Five Crowns in Corona del Mar is a time-honored restaurant reminiscent of England’s oldest country inns. This landmark establishment has been around since 1965 and has remained a community staple, known for its roasted prime rib and decadent sides like Yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach, creamed corn and mashed potatoes. When you make a reservation here, you can expect to leave with a full belly.

Helmsman Ale House

Given its smooth selection of craft brews, it’s no surprise Helmsman Ale House also boasts a menu of Cali-inspired pub grub. This local restaurant and brewery sure knows how to feed its beer-loving patrons. The menu features a variety of savory dishes like nachos, coconut shrimp, tri-tip sandwiches, housemade pickled potato chips and the popular Bavarian pretzel with fried thyme, IPA cheese sauce and spicy mustard. In other words, folks don’t come here for a salad…

The Great Maple

From fluffy buttermilk pancakes and maple bacon doughnuts to a Cajun Shrimp Biscuit Benedict that’ll make your mouth water, it’s no wonder The Great Maple is a go-to for Newport Beach brunch lovers. This is no “green eggs and ham” establishment. This Fashion Island hotspot takes pride in its delicious approach to American comfort food. You’ll certainly want to trade in that green juice for some maple-glazed goodness at least once this summer.

Arc Butcher & Baker

Located in the historic Cannery Village, this charming restaurant does three things exceptionally well: wine, baked goods and classic American fare. Arc Butcher & Baker not only houses an on-site bakery full of puffy pastries but also boasts an extensive wine list that’ll sweep you off your feet. Pair your glass (or bottle) with the Butcher’s Burger, short rib pizza, BBQ Pork Sandwich or Duck Cassoulet, and don’t look back. These signature dishes are worth every calorie.

Stag Bar + Kitchen

New American dishes shine at Stag Bar + Kitchen, one of Newport Beach’s oldest bars. This iconic Balboa Peninsula establishment remains a staple in the seaside community, offering patrons a wide selection of eats that don’t disappoint. From truffle fries and loaded nachos to pizza, burgers, wings and more, there’s no competition when it comes to top-notch comfort food. Be sure to pair your meal with a signature cocktail like the Pineapple Express or Juice Cleanse!

Moulin

If baked goods are part of your summer “diet,” then we know just the place to satisfy your carb cravings. Moulin, known for its charming atmosphere and delectable selection of French pastries, is a go-to spot for sweet-toothed locals. With just one step inside, guests are greeted with a case full of tasty confections like croissants, canelés, seasonal fruit tarts, baguettes and more. In other words, you won’t miss your Starbucks muffin.

Tavern House Kitchen + Bar

In addition to its bayside location, there are a number of reasons Tavern House Kitchen + Bar is a popular spot for a morning, midday or sunset meal. With a brunch menu chock-full of delicious favorites like the Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Malted Waffles and Prime Rib Hash and a dinner menu with offerings like calamari, clam chowder and ale-battered fish and chips, it’s obvious why this waterfront establishment is a crowd-pleaser. Let’s just say, restaurateurs David Wilhelm and Gregg Solomon know how to level up classic American cuisine.
