If there is one bucket list holiday event not-to-be-missed, Brookgreen Garden’s Nights of a Thousand Candles is it. The Myrtle Beach area boasts so many great holiday activities, but this one shines extra bright. Attendees at Nights of a Thousand Candles have the rare opportunity to see the already spectacular sculpture gardens by the candlelight of more than 2,700 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights from 4 to 9 p.m. on designated evenings in December 2020.
Attendees can walk the garden pathways with a warm cup of cider, cocoa, or wine, hear the sounds of holiday music and carolers singing, and experience the nightly Christmas tree lighting of a huge living tree. Unique this year is the presence of Bruce Munro’s ‘Field of Light,’ an extension of the popular summertime light exhibit by renowned artist Bruce Munro. So those lucky enough to attend this year’s event will technically be experiencing two light shows for the price of one garden admission. Lastly, in addition to exploring the gardens by night, Brookgreen hosts a number of dining options during Nights of a Thousand Candles, where attendees can purchase food items like Low Country Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Bog, and more.
Not surprisingly, Brookgreen Garden’s Nights of a Thousand Candles is the recipient of the Charles A. Bundy Award for Excellence in Tourism from the South Carolina Parks and Recreation Department and was awarded the distinction of ‘Best Christmas Lights in South Carolina’ by Travel+Leisure Magazine. It’s always a well-loved and popular event but boasts a little extra appeal this holiday season as people feel safer celebrating the season outdoors.
Brookgreen has added 12 additional nights to the annual event for safety, social distancing, and crown control, and only half the amount of tickets available each night when compared to previous years. All tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost of tickets for members is $20/adult and $12/children and for non-members $25/adult and $15/children. Visit Brookgreen.org for more information and to purchase tickets. Here are the remaining dates for this year:
